WHALE CAMP

See gray whales in Magdalena Bay: a 4-day expedition into the heart of their sanctuary.

Embark on a 4-day, 3-night expedition to the remote Magdalena Island, off the coast of Magdalena Bay, Baja California Sur. Designed for those seeking to connect with nature in its purest form, this expedition takes you on a close encounter with gray and humpback whales, while you explore breathtaking landscapes and discover the history and biodiversity of the bay.

During your stay you will experience 2 days of guided expeditions in search of these majestic marine creatures, and 2 days of land exploration — walks through the desert, dunes and environmental interpretation — that will allow you to immerse yourself in the local flora, fauna and culture.

How we operate

We are Murillos Bros Adventours, a family-run fishing cooperative in Puerto San Carlos with 85 years of tradition in this bay. We are not an intermediary agency: our guides and captains were born and raised navigating these waters, and they are the ones who will accompany you throughout the entire expedition. We hold SECTUR "Semilla" certification for community tourism, our guides are Wilderness First Responders (WFR), and we are Mangrove Breakthrough Endorsers.

We operate within a Protected Natural Area, pay the corresponding access fees and follow the Leave No Trace principles: we seek to leave the place exactly as we found it.

That's why every expedition is different from the last. The itinerary can be adjusted depending on the whales' location, the weather, sea conditions, and the campsite—not by chance, but because our captains make these decisions based on decades of knowledge of this bay to offer you the best possible experience every day.

We also take care of the water: we don't transport fresh water for bathing, not because of a lack of resources, but to reduce our environmental impact. Fresh water is reserved for drinking, cooking, and basic hygiene—for cooling off, the sea is there.

This is an expedition camp, not glamping. We don't aim to offer you luxury, but rather an authentic connection with a place that is otherwise almost impossible to reach.

Why Magdalena Bay?

Magdalena Bay is one of Baja California Sur's most special destinations: a natural sanctuary that hosts one of the world's largest concentrations of gray whales during their annual migration. Here you can observe gray and humpback whales up close as they arrive each year in these warm waters to breed and raise their young.

Whale watching in this region is unique, as the whales often approach the boats out of curiosity. The bay is also home to a great diversity of flora and fauna—seabirds, dolphins, and marine life that can be explored both in the water and on land.

Adventure, nature, connection with wildlife and a starry sky that will leave you speechless.

Book your spot now with Murillos Bros Adventours and experience an unforgettable adventure on Magdalena Island. Limited availability!
